Nemesis, in Greek mythology, was the goddess of fate and restorative justice, judge of crimes that remained unsolved and unpunished, dispenser of joy or pain depending on the situation. In some myths she is the daughter of Zeus, in others she was born from the union between Ocean and Night. Nemesis was iconographically represented as a young woman with a proud appearance, with a sword in her right hand and an hourglass in her left hand, symbols of her impartial justice.
