These guardian lions are inspired by the traditional statues that stand at either side of the doors and entrances of the palaces, temples and houses of noble families in a number of Oriental countries. Lladró embellishes these creatures with richly ornamented armour. Although traditionally these guardian lions were not dressed, the protective armour featured in these pieces by Lladró, combined with the fierceness of these creatures, help to better understand their mission as guardians. The green enamel used to decorate these lions looks for a point of commonality with oriental culture.
